New Animation Short Film:
Mourning

My goodness, has it really been 6 months since my last post?  Wow, time has gotten away from me and my schedule has been crazy.  But as they say, absence makes the heart grow founder, or some other manner of non-sense!  Well, I am finally back with an update.  This time around, I have a new animation project for you guys.

The animation was done by a very talented animator named David Rodrigez who is a recent graduate from the animation power house, Animation Mentor.  He came to me with this chilling animation that, even to this day, still makes me shiver.  There aren’t a lot of people out there who strive to make a very serious animated short, and those who do usually fall flat.  However, David did it with flying colors.

The soundscape was simple in theory, but was difficult to find.  I wanted the audience to feel two waring emotions: sympathy and disgust.  I want the viewers to be absolutely appalled by the actions of the main character, but by the end, they feel a great sadness for him.  I can say with the utmost confidence that the music in this animated piece is the most gripping I’ve done and I am beyond pleased with how it turned out!  Don’t take my word for it, though:

As always, you can also see it over on the VIDEO page.  Be sure to check out David over at his website as he will be updating with new projects as he finishes them!

New Animation Short Film:
French Restaurant

Hello my friends!  Welcome back for another week of Tweex Music updates.  This time around I have a VERY exciting announcement.  I was given the privilege to work on an awesome animation short film where I did sound design and composed original music!

This film comes from another one of the extremely talented animators from Animation Mentor.  For those of you who have followed my updates for any length of time, you’ve seen that I’ve done work for quite a few AM students (Spotlight and Marcel et Marceau just to name two).  I am pleased to add this short to my library of work!  The film was created, directed, and animated by a man named Daniel Vasconcellos, a great animator based out of Sydney, Australia!  Daniel had the idea to create a film based around a server in a restaurant and the unexpected hardships that he might face.  To say the very least, hilarity ensues!

When Dan and I started talking details, he said that he was very open to the sound and style of the music.  For me, that was music to my ears (horrible pun).  I love hearing and composing music that has an orchestral influence fused with another genre.  Jazz/lounge music felt it would be the best fit for the piece, but I really wanted to try incorporating more orchestral elements as you really don’t hear that a lot with this style of music.  I’m quite pleased with how it all turned out!  But don’t take my work for it, check it out:

As always, you can also see it over on the VIDEO page.  For those of you who would like to hear the main musical themes by themselves, go no further!  I have that for you:

You’ll also find the music over on the MUSIC page.  Be sure to check out Daniel over at his website as he will be updating with new projects as he finishes them!  This update is just the beginning of some awesome new projects that will be released VERY soon.  Don’t stray too far; you don’t want to miss this!

Tweex Music Writes New Music and Shound Design for Animation:
Marcel et Marceau

Tweex Music brings a very exciting update this week: a brand new animation short film entitled Marcel et Marceau.  The film was directed and animated by a man named Manuel Escotet, a very talented animator and recent graduate from Animation Mentor.  This piece was his final thesis project, and it turned out exceptionally well!

The film follows the story of two mimes: Marcel and Marceau.  They find themselves competing with each other on the same river walk area in Paris.  What starts out as a competition to win the crowd quickly turns into a bitter rivalry between them and hilarity ensues!

Manuel and I began working together back in April so we could begin brainstorming how the sound and music would tell the story.  Manuel was very interested in the idea of having French music be the primary genre.  In addition to the French sound, I had the idea to infuse other genres in the piece.  Latin/flamenco, orchestral, and heavy metal all made an appearance in the film.  The eclectic mix of genres helped breath more life into the story!  See for yourself:

The animation was submitted to an animation film festival and we are still waiting to hear back.  Any news we hear will be posted here on the T|M website, so don’t go far!  As always, you can find the animation on the SFX Design page.  There are exciting project updates coming very soon!  Until then, enjoy.

Tweex Music Composes Original Music for US Airways Duty Free Commercial

Tweex Music is back this week with a new addition to the Airline episodes.  This time around, Tweex Music debuts its composition for US Airways.  This piece is particularly special in that it uses a piece of music found on the Tweex Music debut album, Alter Ego. The track, “Finding the Pocket,” was selected for this run of duty free spots for US Airways.  The original featured the expertise of Jon “JJT” Titterington on the clavichord.  While the clav solo didn’t make it into the spot, it was still masterfully done and I highly recommend checking it out.

This is the second track from the Alter Ego library to make an appearance in an airline duty free commercial with the first being the DELTA DUTY FREE COMMERCIAL that aired about a year ago.  Alter Ego has seen some additional usage in some forthcoming airline projects, so be sure to keep your eyes out for that.

Alter Ego has been on the market now for a little over a year and album sales are still rockin’ along.  I recommend visiting the DISCOGRAPHY PAGE to listen to some samples from the album and then feel free to head over to the TWEEX MUSIC STORE to purchase your digital copy today.  However, for those of you who enjoy the music coming from a physical CD, there are still a few (and we do mean a few) in stock over at CD BABY.  With an album that covers all different genres in one CD, you are sure to find something you love.  US Airways certainly did, so can you!

As always, the US Airways spot can be found on the SFX DESIGN PAGE and be sure to check back soon as new updates and announcements are forthcoming!

T|M Composes Music and Creates Sound Design for Animation Short: Spotlight

.
Tweex Music just finished music composition and sound design on a new animation short film.  The short was created, directed, and animated by Himanshu Sharma, a recent graduate of Animation Mentor.  Having worked with several students from the school, I can honestly say that these are some of the best character animators in school right now.  Himanshu has worked very hard to create a film that is just as entertaining as it is impressive!

The project began as only a sound design endeavor, however, Tweex Music composed music as a “trial” for Himanshu.  After hearing the piece, Himanshu and Tweex Music both decided that the custom music was by far the best choice.  The music has two main themes: the burglar and the dog.  For those who haven’t seen the piece, that may not mean much, but I guarantee it will once you see it.  The project turned out phenomenally.  Be sure to keep up with Himanshu’s Blog as he will be updating it with new projects and jobs.

As always, the piece can be found on the SFX PAGE.  For Those of you who would like to see (and hear) the piece before Tweex Music composed the music and sound design and before Himanshu polished the film, I HIGHLY recommend that you check it out.  You can find the OLD VERSION HERE. You will truly be amazed at the difference!

Be sure to return for more Tweex Music news as new and very exciting updates are on the way!

Tweex Music and Daniel Floyd Introduce New Animation Short Series:

Boot Camp – Part 1

Tweex Music recently completed music and sound design for a new animation series known as  Boot Camp!  The animation was done by Daniel ’sephfire’ Floyd and it follows the endeavors of a new army recruit going through Boot Camp training.  The 3 part series illustrates his attempts to successfully navigate the obstacle course.  He fails miserably at each and continues to escalate to the wonderful finale.  For the next two weeks, Tweex Music will be releasing the two other pieces in the collection.

The music is meant to sound both militaristic and comedic in which a memorable melody is produced.   The sound design is a mixture of realistic SFX and more stylized/cartoon design.  Each is supposed to capture the essence of the piece and resolve it in the 10 short seconds that the animation takes place in!

Enjoy the first installment of of the Boot Camp series: The Wall!
