New Animation Short Film:
Mourning

My goodness, has it really been 6 months since my last post?  Wow, time has gotten away from me and my schedule has been crazy.  But as they say, absence makes the heart grow founder, or some other manner of non-sense!  Well, I am finally back with an update.  This time around, I have a new animation project for you guys.

The animation was done by a very talented animator named David Rodrigez who is a recent graduate from the animation power house, Animation Mentor.  He came to me with this chilling animation that, even to this day, still makes me shiver.  There aren’t a lot of people out there who strive to make a very serious animated short, and those who do usually fall flat.  However, David did it with flying colors.

The soundscape was simple in theory, but was difficult to find.  I wanted the audience to feel two waring emotions: sympathy and disgust.  I want the viewers to be absolutely appalled by the actions of the main character, but by the end, they feel a great sadness for him.  I can say with the utmost confidence that the music in this animated piece is the most gripping I’ve done and I am beyond pleased with how it turned out!  Don’t take my word for it, though:

As always, you can also see it over on the VIDEO page.  Be sure to check out David over at his website as he will be updating with new projects as he finishes them!

B.o.B and Fort Minor Mashup:
Airplanes (feat. Hayley Williams)

Happy September everyone.  Where the heck did August go?  Well, T|M is back this week with an exciting update on a small project I announced a few weeks back: a mashup between B.o.B and Fort Minor.

The main track comes from B.o.B and is called Airplanes which features Hayley Williams from the band Paramore.  I’ve been a big fan of this song since I first heard it on the radio.  There have been a lot of mashups inspired from the song, to say the very least, but one morning when I was listening and thinking about the words of the chorus, I realized that tracks from the Fort Minor album would work extremely well!  The subject matter that Mike Shinoda raps about on the album worked frighteningly well with “Airplanes”.  It originally started with one track from FM, but I kept on finding additional tracks from The Rising Tide that worked just as well.  One thing led to another, and the complete version of the track included SIX different Fort Minor tracks, all from the debut album!  The list of tracks, in order, are:

Right Now
Remember the Name
Feel Like Home
High Road
Be Somebody
Slip Out the Back

Check out the music video I made for the mashup.  Unfortunately, there isn’t any video footage for three of the six tracks from Fort Minor, so I condensed the video down just four FM songs!  Watch it:

For those of you who want the FULL version of the song with all six tracks, check it out here!

Well, there you have it!  You can see the video over on the VIDEO page and hear the full song at the MUSIC page.  As always, I’ve got some great new project announcements coming soon, so don’t stray far; more to come!

New Animation Short Film:
French Restaurant

Hello my friends!  Welcome back for another week of Tweex Music updates.  This time around I have a VERY exciting announcement.  I was given the privilege to work on an awesome animation short film where I did sound design and composed original music!

This film comes from another one of the extremely talented animators from Animation Mentor.  For those of you who have followed my updates for any length of time, you’ve seen that I’ve done work for quite a few AM students (Spotlight and Marcel et Marceau just to name two).  I am pleased to add this short to my library of work!  The film was created, directed, and animated by a man named Daniel Vasconcellos, a great animator based out of Sydney, Australia!  Daniel had the idea to create a film based around a server in a restaurant and the unexpected hardships that he might face.  To say the very least, hilarity ensues!

When Dan and I started talking details, he said that he was very open to the sound and style of the music.  For me, that was music to my ears (horrible pun).  I love hearing and composing music that has an orchestral influence fused with another genre.  Jazz/lounge music felt it would be the best fit for the piece, but I really wanted to try incorporating more orchestral elements as you really don’t hear that a lot with this style of music.  I’m quite pleased with how it all turned out!  But don’t take my work for it, check it out:

As always, you can also see it over on the VIDEO page.  For those of you who would like to hear the main musical themes by themselves, go no further!  I have that for you:

You’ll also find the music over on the MUSIC page.  Be sure to check out Daniel over at his website as he will be updating with new projects as he finishes them!  This update is just the beginning of some awesome new projects that will be released VERY soon.  Don’t stray too far; you don’t want to miss this!

B.O.B. and Fort Minor Mashsup:
Airplanes

Hey everyone.  I usually don’t do multiple posts in one week, but this one is just too good to wait.  I’ve been working a small mashup track using the song Airplanes by B.O.B. (feat. Hayley Williams)and taking multiple parts from multiple tracks from Fort Minor, one of my favorite hip hop groups!  I’ve had a man crush on Mike Shinoda for a very long time and it was great to be able to do this.  I’m still working on the piece and I’m contemplating making a movie for it, but I haven’t decided yet.  I wanted to make a post with a small sample so you guys can listen to the direction of the piece.  It is REALLY bitchin’!!  Take a listen:

And here is just an audio version. You can get better audio quality in the YouTube player if you select 480p instead of the standard 320p. Why YouTube doesn’t let you default to 420p is beyond me, but here is just the audio for those of you interested!

And there you have it for now.  The final version will be coming out soon.  This sample only has a snippet of one Fort Minor song (Remember the Name), while the full thing will have SIX different Fort Minor tracks!  It’s not to be missed, so check back soon!

Tweex Music Website Gets New Design!

T|M is back this week with some exciting additions!  Website redesign, new music, new videos, and a new sleek look is what has been brought to the table! After spending some time looking over the site, there have been some changes that have been screaming at me, so I decided to go ahead and work on redesigning a few of the pages.

First challenge was the MUSIC Page.  The old version was stale and contained a lot of text.  Most importantly, it didn’t showcase the music that T|M has done over the past few years at all, really.  So, after some thought and hard work, the page has been completely over hauled to allow listeners to hear a LOT of the work that Tweex Music has produced most recently.  You can check out the “Commercial Music” section that features music from advertisements, film, TV, theatre, podcasts, and much more.  If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, “Personal Projects” will allow you to listen to pieces that I’ve done for fun here and there!  And if all else fails, “Video Game Remixes” will let you escape in nostalgia to a time you may have spent as a kid!

Some of you may have already noticed that the old SFX Page has suddenly disappeared.  Fear not!  This was by design…or re-design rather.  What has replaced it is the new and sleek VIDEO Page.  All the audio work that T|M has done for a video can be found here!  Thumbnails for all the different productions has been made to help get rid of the wall of text that plagued the old SFX page.  The new layout really helps show the diversity of the productions that T|M has worked on!

Finally, the CONTACT Page was tackled!  A brand new layout very similar to the new VIDEO Page helps show everyone the MANY ways that you all can contact me to talk about productions you may be working on, projects that may need audio, or just to chew the fat about the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy…uh, I mean the Speed channel.

All the pages have never before seen/heard content on them.  Check out the new music and videos and enjoy the brand new layout!

Tweex Music Writes New Music and Shound Design for Animation:
Marcel et Marceau

Tweex Music brings a very exciting update this week: a brand new animation short film entitled Marcel et Marceau.  The film was directed and animated by a man named Manuel Escotet, a very talented animator and recent graduate from Animation Mentor.  This piece was his final thesis project, and it turned out exceptionally well!

The film follows the story of two mimes: Marcel and Marceau.  They find themselves competing with each other on the same river walk area in Paris.  What starts out as a competition to win the crowd quickly turns into a bitter rivalry between them and hilarity ensues!

Manuel and I began working together back in April so we could begin brainstorming how the sound and music would tell the story.  Manuel was very interested in the idea of having French music be the primary genre.  In addition to the French sound, I had the idea to infuse other genres in the piece.  Latin/flamenco, orchestral, and heavy metal all made an appearance in the film.  The eclectic mix of genres helped breath more life into the story!  See for yourself:

The animation was submitted to an animation film festival and we are still waiting to hear back.  Any news we hear will be posted here on the T|M website, so don’t go far!  As always, you can find the animation on the SFX Design page.  There are exciting project updates coming very soon!  Until then, enjoy.

Tweex Music Composes New Music for Delta Airlines Commercial

Tweex Music is back this week with a new airline commercial for you!  This time around, T|M presents new music for Delta Airlines.  Tweex Music did a another spot for Delta back in 2008 and had music from my debut album, Alter Ego, featured in the spot, which you can LISTEN TO and DOWNLOAD for free!

This time around, T|M was able to compose an original piece of music for the spot.  The idea was to come up with something peppy but also laid back.  Being a big fan of genre fusion, I decided to create a piece that had classical elements (chamber strings), contemporary guitar solo, electronic synths, and tribal/ethnic percussion.  If you had to categorize the piece, it would probably be in the ever so popular Classic-Hop-Contemp-Electro-World genre!  Or as we in the business like to call it, “Indie” :) .  The final product came out quite well.  Check it out for yourself:

As always, the spot can be found of the SFX PAGE along with all the other airline spots that T|M has had the priveldge to work on!  Tweex Music continues to keep very busy and has some exciting updates on the way so be sure to check back soon!

T|M Composes New Arrangement for The Guild Web Series Theme Song

Tweex Music is back with a new arrangement for all to hear.  A popular web comedy series called The Guild recently finished their 3rd season and will be going into their fourth sometime in the future.  The show follows a core group of people who play an MMO together online.  It focuses on their interactions both in front of the computer screen AND in person.  It is a fantastic comedy series that has grown massively in its popularity!

T|M fell in love with the theme song right off the bat.  The first season had the same theme song, but the arrangement was made up of only a snare drum and bell synth.  The second and third season made use a track that had the same melody, but it was meant to sound a little more epic.  After listening to the theme over and over again, Tweex decided to try composing a new arrangement of the existing song.  The result turned out fabulous.  If you were to take the original theme…

…and combine it with Hans Zimmer/Pirates of the Caribbean, you would get what T|M has come up with:

You can even SEE a clip of the show with the theme song in it here: WATCH THEME SONG IN EPISODE.

T|M is in the process of reaching out the the production team for the show to try and have this placed.  If you have any connections, feel free to let Tweex Music know so we can get this fantasitc piece of music placed in the show!  Tell your friends and help create buzz so we can reach the staff!

Until next time, be cool and check back soon for new updates!

T|M Has New Music in American Airlines Duty Free Commercial

Tweex Music is back with a NEW addition to the airline commercial series!  This time around, T|M has placed music in the new American Airlines duty free spot.  The music may sound familiar as it is both music found in the US Airways Commercial and is the popular track from T|M’s debut album Alter Ego, entitled “Finding the Pocket.”  A review of the piece can be found on the US Airways News Post, so we will get right to the spot.  This commercial was an odd time in comparison to the others; right at 2 minutes.  This was great as it allowed Tweex Music to showcase the track a bit more.  With out further delay, here is the spot:

Like the other videos, this one can also be found on the SFX DESIGN PAGE.  Be sure to check back soon with more news as there are some very exciting projects/announcements on the horizon that will certainly excite you!  Enjoy the music.

T|M Introduces New Media Series:
Remix under Review

Tweex Music is proud to present a new media series called Remix under Review.  A great passion from T|M is hearing/reading/seeing how a composer, arranger, or programmer created a song.  Everyone’s tools, ideas, and work flows are different, and learning new processes is always a valuable lesson.  It’s also extremely benneficial to hear what their inspiration might have been at the time.

Well, Tweex Music is following that idea by starting a new series in which T|M will detail the construction of a video game/original remix done by Tweex.  Periodically, T|M will feature a remix and give in depth details about the process of making the mix, the inspiration for the track, the tools that were used, and any other info.

In this installment, we’ll get the ball rolling with Tweex’ first video game remix: FINAL PANIC.

Source Tunes:

Remix:

Final Panic was created in the spring of 2006 and is a remix from the game “Tetris Attack” for the SNES. Up to this point, T|M hadn’t focused on electronic/synthetic composition, but this mix marks the first well executed idea to come entirely from the computer (no live instrumentation).  The track was started in response to an album project on OverClocked Remix for the Tetris Attack game.  The project was never completed, but the remix was!

At the time, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was the soundtrack of choice with a very close second from Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.  I set out to create a soundscape that honored the drums/percussion of Tan Dun and the orchestration of Klaus Badelt.  For my experience level at the time, the fusion turned out marvelously!  The majority of the track is spent on the main source, but the last minute of the remix speeds up and covers the “panic mode” for the level the music came from.

In 2006, my primary compositional tool was Reason 3.  The orchestral tonal instruments (aside from the brass) came from the Orkester sound bank (orchestral samples that come with Reason).  The brass samples came from an early version of Quantum Leap Brass that had been converted into a usable format for Reason.  The percussion samples came from the Doru Malia-8000 percussion kit.

The tools at T|M’s disposal are far more powerful, but for the time and experience level, Tweex Music is exceptionally proud of this mix.  Be sure to check it out, and others, over on the MUSIC PAGE and check back for new installments in the Remix under Review series as well as new Tweex Music project updates!
